FAQ
What are genius wefts (aka: hand sewn wefts) ?
Genius Wefts / Hand Sewn:
-
How they’re made: Hair is machine-made first, then hand-sewn together to reinforce the track.
-
Thickness: More hair per weft. Slightly thicker than hand-tied, but thinner than traditional machine wefts.
-
Look/feel: Still natural, just a bit more structure.
-
Customization: Can be cut without unraveling.
-
Comfort: No return hair (no mustache) at the base of the weft. Don't irritate the scalp and itch. Lay flat to the scalp and can be layered with multiple wefts.
-
Install methods: Sew-in, beaded sew-in, traditional installs.
How many grams does each pack contain?
All sizes include:
Half pack- approximately (50g)
Full pack approximately (100g)
Each FULL pack of Hand-Sewn Extensions includes ?? wefts while each HALF pack includes ?? wefts. Width of each weft is approx ?? inches long
How many wefts or packs does a full head require?
Typically if you are installing a full head I recommend 2-3 FULL packs. That is approximately (200g-300g). Depending on the length and density of the natural hair. I recommended to use two or more colors to achieve a more natural look.
How often should I purchase new hair?
Totally depends on the type of hair, how you wear it, and how well you maintain it—but the realistic industry guideline most stylists follow is 6-12 months.
Signs it’s time to replace:
-
Hair feels dry, frizzy, or brittle even after deep conditioning
-
Excessive tangling or matting
-
Ends look thin or see-through
-
Won’t hold tone anymore (over-processed from coloring
What shortens lifespan?
⚠️ Heat abuse
⚠️ Purple shampoo too often
⚠️ Sleeping with wet or unbrushed hair
⚠️ Cheap products with sulfates/alcohol
⚠️ Coloring/lightening extensions repeatedly
Hair Society Pro tip to make hair last longer:
-
Use sulfate free shampoo + deep conditioning mask
-
Blow-dry after every wash (air-drying = matting) especially at the base of the weft. Wet wefts can cause swelling at the base and ruin your extensions.
-
Brush 2–3x daily with an extension brush
- Wash only 2-3 times a week. Extensions are human hair but not living hair. They lose moisture easily, Washing more than 2-3 times a week is recommended partial washes (where you separate your natural hair from the extension hair where you only wash your natural hair.
- Stay away from styling protects with a lot of alcohol. Hairspray can be drying. I recommend dry texture spray.
- Avoid submerging your extensions in chlorine or salt water (pools & ocean) both can be drying.
- Sunscreens that RUIN hair extensions
Chemical sunscreens (the biggest offender)
These contain ingredients like:
-
Avobenzone 🚨 (the worst one)
-
Oxybenzone
-
Octinoxate
-
Homosalate
Why they’re bad:
Avobenzone reacts with minerals, chlorine, and hard water and causes:
-
Pink, peach, or orange staining (especially blondes)
-
Permanent discoloration you cannot tone out
-
Dry, fried texture over time
What’s safest for extensions
✅ Mineral (physical) sunscreens
Look for:
-
Zinc oxide
-
Titanium dioxide
These sit on top of the skin instead of reacting chemically—and don’t stain extensions.
Sleeping: Loosely braid extensions at night and sleep on a silk pillowcase to prevent tangling.
Coloring: Coloring extensions may compromise their integrity. If coloring is necessary, use only a demi- or semi-permanent color. Never use lightener or bleach on extensions, and always have coloring performed by a licensed professional.
